William, pictured here, is top of his class at Lewa Primary and in the midst of writing his KCPE exams that will determine what secondary school he will qualify for. This is where he sleeps every night, next to the cows that he must watch over most of the year as his nomadic family ranges with the larger herd. Every night William reads books he has borrowed from the KEY library by firelight. He attributes his voracious reading to his top grades. No matter where you are, a book can not only be a companion, but a ticket to a more promising future.
